There are a total of 119 species of herpetofauna in Hong Kong, with 25 species of frogs, 16 species of turtles, 24 species of lizards/skinks/geckos, and 54 species of snakes. However, the actual number is likely lower, as a fair number have either become extirpated (regionally extinct) or are suspicious records e.g. Speckled Keelback (Rhabdophis chrysargos) being labeled as found in Hong Kong from The Museum of Natural History in Vienna (Austria), but never had any local sightings.
