Despite their prevalence in the aquarium hobby, Dwarf Shrimp's (Caridina and Neocaridina) are some of the most understudied freshwater invertebrates. There are 9 species of Caridina and 1 species of Neocaridina shrimp in Hong Kong. However, the actual numbers are likely higher, due to the difficulty of identifying characteristics with the naked eye. (statistics acquired from AFCD, HKwildlife and AECHK).
